Black & White Sands
I visited White Sands National Monument in 2019, since then the park has gained National Park designation. There are three things in Alamogordo, New Mexico: the park, the air force base and a row of never-ending fast food restaurants. The park closes at 9pm which causes a problem when you want to view the sunset in the summer. A few hundred feet from the farthest parking lot into the park I was alone in a sea of flowing white gypsum sand. I spent hours photographing the dunes and playing The War On Drugs until I had to get back in the van and drive the rutted road back to my KOA for the night.
